Two Poems

Thank-you

I am the rush of breath against lips
That hesitant half smile
I am a word of depth
People brush me off
Say me without thought
Use me without care
Or forget me completely
I am free entirely pure
I carry no hidden message
I am gratitude
The key to the soul

They say we have freedom

They say we have freedom,
Freedom of speech,
But now more than ever
I must watch my words
And say what is correct
Not what I mean.

They say we have freedom,
Freedom to go where we like,
But now more than ever
I am trapped in a cage
And must always be present
Not be where I like.
They say we have freedom,
Freedom to do as we please,
But now more than ever
I must follow the rules
And do as I am told
Not do as I like.
They say we have freedom,
Freedom to be who we like,
But now more than ever
I must be what they want
And must forget who I am
Not be who I want.
